Abstrak

The rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has transformed educational practices, particularly in English language teacher education. This study explores how pre-service teachers use AI tools to design instructional components in a TEFL Methodology course. A qualitative descriptive design was employed involving 17 pre-service teachers at Universitas Muhammadiyah Pringsewu, Lampung. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, document analysis, and classroom observations. The findings indicate that participants frequently used ChatGPT, Gemini, Canva AI, Grammarly, QuillBot, and Microsoft Copilot to support lesson planning, material development, assessment design, media creation, and language improvement. Participants perceived AI as beneficial for enhancing creativity, efficiency, and technological competence in instructional planning. Nevertheless, several challenges were identified, including overreliance on AI, concerns about content accuracy, plagiarism risks, and ethical issues. The study highlights the importance of integrating AI literacy and critical digital pedagogy into TEFL teacher education programs to promote responsible, effective, and pedagogically sound use of AI technologies.
